WELCOME !!! to  Castle Green built in 1898, is one of the most treasured buildings in Pasadena and perhaps in all of California.  It is registered in the state as a historical landmark and remains today as one of the most unique architectural gems in southern California. Built under the ownership of Colonel C.G. Green in 1898 it was considered one of the most beautiful and unique hotels of its time. The Castle Green (which was the second annex of the then named Hotel Green), opened on January 16, 1899 having just been completed in November of the previous year.  The building is an eclectic combination of Moorish, Spanish and Victorian influences.  It was designed by the well known architect Frederick L. Roehrig who had a major influence  for architecture in Pasadena and the surrounding areas.  Built of steel, brick and concrete it was considered the only fireproof hotel in California, which was a substantial claim at the time.  This was especially important because of the nearby Raymond Hotel which burned to the ground in 1895.  Many of the guests visiting the Green Hotel were from the eastern states trying to escape the harsh winters, but there were also the occasional business and financial tycoons, actors and even U.S. Presidents.  But unfortunately by the 1920's the resort era in Pasadena was coming to an end and many of the hotels fell on hard times.  Soon thereafter in 1924, the Green Hotel resort was divided into three individually owned properties.  The Castle Green remains today as individually owned residential units as it has since the 1930's. It has remained unchanged through the years which features many pieces of furniture original to the building when it opened as a premiere hotel in 1899.  Through the years the Castle Green has been featured in numerous movies, TV shows and commercials.  Some of the most notable movies include The Sting, The Man With Two Brains, The Last Samurai and most recently The Prestige.  And in the category of "It's so bad it's good" , the cult classic "B" movie The Puppet Master.  The Castle Green is truly a one of a kind building and is meant to be seen and viewed by those who admire and respect true craftsmanship and hold a high regard for historical places.  Although the Castle Green is a private residence, it is open to the public twice a year ( in June and again in December)  for a self guided tour through many of the residential units, the main salon, and the penthouse for a nominal fee.  All proceeds go to the Friends of the Castle Green, a non profit organization which aids in the many on going restoration projects of the Castle.  Go to CastleGreen .com for more info on tours.  Castle Green is located in the heart of Old Pasadena on Raymond Ave and Green St. just one block below Colorado Blvd..  Within walking distance of shopping and dining.  It is also conveniently located across from the Del Mar Station Gold-line and major freeways.  And you can't get much closer to view the Rose Parade as it rolls on by on New Years Day.  Thanks for visiting and hope to see you on a tour someday.
